Regional Chamber Education Alliance
What is the Regional Chamber Education Alliance? The Chambers of Commerce in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties are working together to make the most of resources and ideas to create a sustainable foundation that will ensure the long-term success of programs that benefit youth and business-school partnerships.
The work of the Regional Chamber Education Alliance is continuing to expand and enhance work-based learning opportunities for youth in our region. The Salem Chamber of Commerce currently partners with the Chambers of Commerce in Newberg, McMinnville, Dallas, Monmouth- Independence, Stayton, Woodburn, and Keizer in supporting career related learning and leadership development. Each chamber is involved in one or more of the following projects: Certificate of Employability, Leadership Youth, Mentoring, Education Leadership Institute, and increasing work-based learning opportunities in the community. This is a very exciting partnership currently funded by the Enterprise Youth Council.
What is the Certificate of Employability? The Certificate of Employability is the result of a joint effort between the school districts and/or youth serving organizations, and the Chambers of Commerce. It is an assessment of Career Related Learning Standards. It is a tool to hold students accountable for their actions in the classroom and to give special emphasis to the work-related skills that are being taught by a school or agency. It is also a way for businesses to verify a student’s work-related skills. The Certificate of Employability is issued to youth that have met specific work-related performance standards.
What is Leadership Youth? Leadership Youth is modeled after Leadership Salem. Youth receive a comprehensive overview of the community. Youth meet with community leaders and decision makers. They receive an introduction to community resources by way of tours, panels and speakers. Youth are then paired with a community mentor and serve on a community board with their mentor.
What is Education Leadership Institute? Education Leadership Institute is a five-day institute for educators. The intent is to support understanding and infuse business, political, and civic knowledge into curricula; to identify, inform and cultivate leaders in education; to provide resources and foster business/education contacts; and to consider education’s needs and concerns.
