National Information on High School ReDesign
Does it scare you or excite you that we need to make some serious changes to the way we deliver education in high school? According to Breaking Ranks II, we are forced to change for two significant reasonsmandate and enticement.
The mandate deals with that we are now judged by the percentage of students who meet the standard overall and within the subgroups, NOT the average performance of the entire school.
The enticement is Our desire is to ensure success of ALL students. That’s why many of us entered the teaching profession. Therefore, by personalizing education we can help students fulfill their dreams and embrace a lifelong love of learning. (Breaking Ranks Revisited pg. xv)

The Power of Advisories
As many of you work on re-designing your high school you have referenced the materials provided by the Education Alliance at Brown University, specifically the Breaking Ranks II: Strategies for Leading High School Redesign.

The Power of Advisories guidebook helps high school change teams conduct workshops for school staff on setting up a school-wide advisory program, developing ways to introduce an adult advocate into the life of every student, and ensuring that each student has an advisor to help guide student planning, learning, and assessment.
